ANDREW GOODWIN is a professor at the University of San Francisco. He is a member of Berkeley Zen Center and a lifelong supporter of Chelsea Football Club. Last Fall he taught a class about Led Zeppelin, and he is now finishing a book about their music. In 2006 he completed a collection of pop songs titled PROFESSOR OF POP. His drumming appears on several Dry Rib tracks re-released last year on the CD Whose Last Trickle (Messthetics #213) by Hyped2Death. Curriculum Vitae

ANDREW GOODWIN studied at the Polytechnic of Central London (now the University of Westminster) & the Birmingham University Centre for Contemporary Cultural Studies, and has made music over the years with Oxy & The Morons, Dry Rib, The Times (who covered his song "WHAM" on the album Enjoy), Vendino Pact, Troika, and Theory Sluts. He has written music, culture & TV criticism for the East Bay Express, the SF Weekly, the San Francisco Bay Guardian, the Chicago Reader, The Listener, the New Statesman, Sight & Sound, Creem, the Village Voice, Marxism Today, Salon, Slate, Tricycle, Inquiring Mind & The Worst Horse. From 1996 to 1998 he produced & hosted over one hundred editions of the weekly radio show "Britpop", for KUSF. He is the author of Dancing In The Distraction Factory: Music Television and Popular Culture, co-editor of several books about popular music, television & music video, and the author of the Introduction to an American edition of Richard Hoggart's classic The Uses Of Literacy. He is on the editorial boards of Media Culture & Society and Popular Music & Society and has written for Screen, Cultural Studies, Socialist Review and Critical Quarterly. He has taught at Northern College, England, the Institute for Education at the University of London, and at San Francisco State University, the University of California at San Diego & the University of San Francisco. He recently completed a novel (Enjoy The Silence) based on the Depeche Mode album Violator. In October 2007 he started blogging as the Professor Of Pop.
